U.S. stocks fell overnight; Dow Jones fell 0.76%

Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrials, Consumer Staples and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares lower.

As of the close on the New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.76%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.80%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.18%.

The best performers of the group were Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX ), which rose 1.94% or 2.90 points to settle at 152.38 points. The top performers on the S&P 500 were Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE: LLY ) which rose 4.29% to 617.63, and Marathon Petroleum Corp (NYSE: MPC (HN: ) ) which rose 3.62 % to 157.87 and EOG Resources Inc (NYSE: EOG ) rose 2.78% to close at 124.98.

The worst performers were Insulet Corporation (NASDAQ:PODD), which fell 6.91% to 194.66 in late trade; Waters Corporation (NYSE:WAT), which fell 6.89% to 305.97; Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH), which fell 6.56 in late trade %, to 122.63. closure.

Declining issues outnumbered advancing ones on the NYSE in 2080, with 803 and 50 stocks unchanged; on the Nasdaq, 2,527 declined, 928 advanced and 64 were unchanged.

Marathon Petroleum Corporation (NYSE: MPC ) shares surged to an all-time high; up 3.62% or 5.51 to 157.87. Amgen (NASDAQ: AMGN ) shares rose to an all-time high; up 1.11% or 3.30 to 300.69. Infobird Co Ltd (NASDAQ: IFBD ) shares fell to all time lows; loss 43.48% or 0.60 to 0.78.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures implied volatility in S&P 500 options, rose 6.36% to 14.04, a one-month high.

Futures for February delivery fell 1.15%, or $23.80, to $2,049.60 a troy ounce. In other commodity trading, crude oil for February delivery rose 3.48%, or $2.45, to $72.83 a barrel, while the March contract rose 3.19%, or $2.42, to $78.31 a barrel.

The interest rate remained unchanged at 0.22%, at 1.09; the interest rate rose by 0.89%, to 143.24.

U.S. dollar index futures rose 0.26% to 102.15.
