Vitalik Buterin announces Ethereum’s 2024 development roadmap
[ad_1]
Ethereum’s 2024 roadmap ushered in a high-speed, secure and sustainable future with initiatives such as “The Surge” aiming to achieve 100,000 TPS processing.
Recently, Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin has just updated the network’s detailed development plan for 2024.
According to the plan, the development roadmap does not change much compared to the 2023 version. The project team retains 6 development stages, including the important event The Merge, which integrates the Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism.
Key improvements that need to be implemented quickly include:
- merge: Use Single-slot Finality to solve the problem of Proof-of-Stake mechanism.
- Surge: Upgrade Dencun to deploy EIP-4844, with the goal of processing 100,000 transactions per second.
- Act of God: Solve the MEV problem and liquidity staking centralization risk.
- edge: Simplify the block verification process. At the same time, provide developers with improved tools to make Ethereum more accessible and efficient.
- Cleaning: Simplifying the Ethereum protocol.
- Splurge: Address other issues such as improving EVM, large-scale application account abstraction…

However, this year there will be an even greater focus on scalability, security and improving sustainability.
Scalability improvements
In 2022, Ethereum has undergone major changes. Through “The Merge” upgrade, it has moved from the PoW mechanism to the PoS mechanism. This shift reduces the platform’s energy consumption and lays the foundation for future improvements.
However, the new structure still has many weaknesses, and the “father” of Ethereum proposed the single-slot finality (SSF) solution as “the simplest way to solve many of the current weaknesses in Ethereum’s design (Proof-of-Stake).”
In addition, Vitalik also believes that The Scourge must adjust to prevent the concentration of Ethereum’s two main “battlefields”: MEV and liquidity staking. Currently, Lido Finance’s Ethereum staking service has attracted high attention on liquidity staking concentration, as the amount of ETH pledged by the project still accounts for a large proportion.
Vitalik claims that the Scourge upgrade will bring Ethereum closer to its goal of processing 100,000 transactions per second.
Network Streamlining and Future Research
The Scourge and The Verge focus on enhancing cybersecurity and user experience respectively.
Next are the “Purify” and “Splurge” upgrades. Both upgrades are considered cleanups and involve removing outdated code to improve network security and efficiency.
At the same time, The Splurge represents an investment in the future of Ethereum, exploring emerging technologies such as proofs and zero-knowledge aggregation, and driving innovation in the Ethereum ecosystem.
While no time estimate was given, Vitalik assured that the changes have been fully prioritized.
Basic principles
The founders emphasized the need for Ethereum to align with its original “cypherpunk” vision, prioritizing decentralized applications, protecting privacy, and peer-to-peer communications. This includes the integration of Rollups and zk technologies, allowing for more private and censorship-resistant applications on the Ethereum network.
As can be seen, Ethereum’s 2024 roadmap reflects a comprehensive strategy to address current challenges and capitalize on emerging opportunities in the blockchain space. With a focus on scalability, security, sustainability, and staying true to its founding principles, Ethereum is poised to solidify its leadership position in the digital currency ecosystem.
