Despite widespread criticism from the industry, prominent Bitcoin (BTC) developer Udi Wertheimer still advocates the adoption of Bitcoin ordinal numbers.

Wertheimer pointed out in a post on X that many people reject the concept of Bitcoin serial numbers. However, he supports the adoption of Bitcoin serial numbers and opposes those who seek to eliminate Bitcoin serial numbers.

“Many senior teams have strong developers,” Wertheimer said. Instead, he encouraged his 183,400 followers to try the technology.

Wertheimer, however, emphasized the importance of ordinal numbers in the Bitcoin blockchain, but stated that he believes Bitcoin’s role as a store of value is more critical and important. Furthermore, Wertheimer believes that Bitcoin ordinal numbers will not be an issue due to the lack of demand for Bitcoin payments.

“That’s the main reason why I believe ordinal numbers weren’t an issue in the first place. Not that many people want to pay with Bitcoin in other ways.”

Udi Wertheimer,

Last December, Bitcoin Core developer Luke Dashjr reported a vulnerability in the Bitcoin blockchain and admitted that after fixing the vulnerability, Ordinals and the BRC-20 standard would cease to exist. According to him, the creation of digital artifacts is possible only because Bitcoin Core does not limit the size of additional data that can be included in a transaction. He also insisted that serial numbers would damage Bitcoin and its users, and that the impact would be huge and irreversible.
