BitPay customers can now use their cryptocurrency to purchase items from merchants such as Gucci, Ralph Lauren and AMC Theaters, or pay for cars and mortgages, the company said in a statement. Although BitPay has been around for years, the company’s move to add support for dozens of other cryptocurrencies fits into a broader trend of web3 companies trying to make it easier to access and use tokens other than Bitcoin. For example, last year, Payments app Bitcoin Strike has added support for Tether’s stablecoin USDT.

BitPay has gradually increased the number of cryptocurrencies supported by the platform. In 2020, 90% of payments processed by the BitPay platform were Bitcoin-based.
